Abstract

Intermittent call reception in GSM network is as a result of unsteady signal caused by multiple versions of the transmitted signal arriving at a point. To reduce this unsteady reception an intelligent frequency hopping technique was used. To achieve that, a multipath reception model was simulated first to determine the number of multipath signals arriving at the reception point. Then the operating frequency was varied until a good network signal was received. If further transmissions was done using that frequency, steady signal reception will be achieved at that point and thereby reducing if not eliminating completely intermittent call reception at that location.
