Design and Simulation of GSM Received Signal Stabilizer for Improved Network Reception
Abstract
The major problem of GSM users in heavy vegetation Areas like Nigeria is environmental which is filled up with radio signal scatterers, reflectors etc, that creates multipath problems which is one of the root causes of poor network receptions of Global System of Mobile (GSM) signal. The effect of these factors are that at some locations in the network coverage area, a mobile station is not able to pick good network signals at some time, resulting in disruptions of conversations or such network problems. A slight change in the transmitting frequency in the network was found to stabilize receptions at such poor reception locations. In this work, a system that will monitor bad network receptions and select a frequency that will stabilize signal reception at that bad network reception location was designed to be incorporated in the mobile station and associated base Station. The designed systems was simulated and the result shows a tremendous improvement in the stability of received GSM signal wherever and whenever there is a poor network reception in any GSM coverage area.
