L’enseignement du Français à l'école primaire

Abstract

The teaching of French became official in primary schools in Nigeria in 2007 through the development of a program by the NERDC. Previously only the private institutions and some federal schools taught that language. In this article, we present what the teaching of French as a foreign language at primary schools level is all about, the skills to be acquired by learners, curriculum content and teaching techniques that can lead to motivation in young children. Our goal is to encourage primary teachers to implement a true initiation to teaching the French language. It is now accepted that young children have a malleable brain that allows them to learn foreign languages more easily.
