Abstract

Islamization of the Iberian Peninsular was a historic event that divided the Peninsular into two worlds between the 8th and 11th centuries. This paper gives a historical analysis of the rise and fall of the Islamic kingdoms in Islamic Spain, and the reasons for their collapse. It also showcases the beauty of Islamic Art exemplified in the Mezquita of Cordoba, although now a mixture of superimposed architectural styles. The conclusion is that Islam was a transmitter of knowledge from Antiquity, whose relevance is still present in the 21st century. Nevertheless, Islamic Art does not describe art created exclusively from the influence of Islam, but secular art developed through an association with the different religions of those times.
