Abstract

The impact of institutional quality and trade on economic performance was examined by this
study. The data were obtained from Central Bank of Nigeria Statistical Bulletin and World
Bank database for the year 1999 to 2023. The multiple regression technique was employed to
analyse the parameters of the model. From the results of the study, institutional quality, import
and exchange rate were found to be positive and statistically significant at 5 percent, while
export was negative but statistically significant. Based on the findings of this study, it is
recommended that government should improve on institutions to ensure quality operations by
fighting corruption, respect rule of law and be transparent in all economic and political
dealings. This would help to improve economic performance in Nigeria.
