L’insurrection ‘bokoharamienne’ et le defi de la communication en Français: Le cas des militaires Nigerians

Abstract

The importance of the acquisition of communicative skills in the French language by the Nigerian military cannot be over emphasized. The commitment of the Nigerian military to overcome the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-east of Nigerian in particular and
probably elsewhere in Nigeria can largely be enhanced if the Nigerian army acquires expressive ability in French language. The international nature of the struggle in the North-east involving international Boko Haram fighters who are largely bilingual (English
and French) in expression, coupled with the francophone environment of the neighbouring francophone countries of Niger, Chad, and Cameroon, without ignoring the international military co-operation between Nigeria and her francophone neighbours, makes the
acquisition of communicability in French language indispensable for the Nigerian soldier. This will enhance intelligence information which will involve decoding and encoding information in French and in English. The learning of military terminology in French becomes necessary.

Résumé
L’acquisition de la compétence communicative en français en tant que langue par les militaires nigérians, est une chose indispensable pour les militaires. Les militaires nigérians peuvent surmonter plus facilement le défi posé par l’insurrection de Boku Haram au Nord-est du Nigéria et même ailleurs si les militaires peuvent acquérir une compétence communicative en français. Le fait que la lutte contre Boku Haram est de nature internationale et que les combattants de Boku Haram sont bilingues (anglais-français), sans ignorer le fait que la lutte au Nord-est du Nigéria se situe dans un environnement francophone avec le Tchad, le Cameroun, et le Niger comme pays francophones voisins, rend cette acquisition obligatoire et nécessaire. Le service d’intelligence qui implique le fait d’encoder et de décoder de l’information, nécessite ce bilinguisme anglais-français pour les militaires. L’acquisition de la terminologie militaire en français devient une nécessité et un atout.
