[email protected] <p><em>T</em><em>his study aimed at determining the extent of adoption of self-regulated learning strategies for </em><em>improving academic</em><em> performance in literacy programme</em><em>s</em><em> in Anambra State</em><em> with particular focus on self-monitoring and self- evaluation strategies. Two</em><em> research questions and </em><em>two</em><em> null hypotheses guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. A total of 44,403 which comprised 18,330 male and 26,073 female adult learners in 286 literacy centres in 2020/2021 academic session in Anambra State w</em><em>ere</em><em> used as the population of the study. A sample size of 888 (366 males and 522 females) was drawn from the population using proportionate stratified random sampling technique. The instrument for data collection was a struc</em><em>tured questionnaire developed by the researchers.</em><em> Cronbach Alpha was used to determine the reliability of the study. The internal consistency of the instrument yielded an overall reliability coefficient value of 0.88. The instrument was validated by three experts.&nbsp; Mean statistics and standard deviation were used to answer research questions </em><em>while t</em><em>-test statistics</em><em> was</em><em> used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that adult </em><em>learners adopt self</em><em>-monitoring and self-evaluation strategies to a high extent. The </em><em>findings on the hypotheses showed that </em><em>there was no significant difference on the adoption of self-monitoring and self-evaluation strategies.</em><em> The researchers recommend that</em><em> adult educators or facilitators should emphasis the teaching of self-regulated learning strategies to enable adult learners acquire self-regulated learning skills. To enable the study to achieve its objectives, five (5) research questions were raised. The study adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of this study comprised all the people living in all communities under Patani Local Government of Delta State from which a total of two hundred (200) respondents were selected to form the sample size for the study. A questionnaire titled Questionnaire on adult education programmes for rural transformation in Delta State was the instrument used for data collection. The validity of the instrument was ascertained through the expert judgment approach while the test re-test method of estimating reliability was used to determine the reliability of the instrument. A reliability index of 0.76 was obtained using Person Product Moment Correlation Statistics. Collected data were analyzed using frequency count, simple percentage, and mean score analysis. Findings from the study revealed that the adult education programmes available in the area under study are literacy programmes, women empowerment/training programmes, health programmes, empowerment training programmes, and Family life education Programmes. [email protected] <p><em>This paper examined the issues, challenges, and prospects of adult learning and vocational training in the post–COVID 19 era. The impact of the pandemic on adult learning and vocational training is discussed in details, based on issues identified from an extensive review of relevant literatures. Some of the issues identified include increased level of isolation, a shift in the way lifelong learning is provided, and a new level of digital literacy required for adult learners to access training opportunities. Furthermore, challenges such as difficulties in providing access to resources and in addressing the loss of jobs, as well as a lack of policy infrastructure to support adult learning and vocational training, are discussed. Strategies to provide equitable access to opportunities are suggested and the prospects of virtual learning and online education are explored. Three research questions guided the study. Descriptive survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study was made up of 82,611 youths aged 18-35 years in Awka South L.G.A. of Anambra State. A sample of 225 youths aged 18-35 years in Awka South L.G.A of Anambra State was used for the study.</p> <p>Accidental sampling technique was used to obtain the sample. The instrument for data collection was a researcher-developed questionnaire titled “Extent of Youth Involvement in Community Development Activities Questionnaire (EYICDAQ).” The instrument was subjected to both face and content validity by three experts. The data collected was analyzed using mean score. The study revealed that youths have been involved in community development activities such as environmental sanitation, road maintenance and security activities in Awka South L.G.A. of Anambra State to a high extent.</p> <p>Based on the findings of the study, the study recommended among others that community development stakeholders should see the youths as an important segment of the populace and future custodian of the community, who should be given opportunity like others, in all aspects of community development efforts such as, in the planning process, implementation, supervision and evaluation of community projects. [email protected] <p>Adult education has been globally recognized as the education for development but some issues such as inadequate government involvement constrains the effective running of adult literacy programmes thereby limiting its potentials. This study assessed the perception of facilitators on government’s involvement in adult literacy programmes in Awka South Local Government Area. Descriptive survey design was used. The population of the study consisted of all the 34 facilitators in adult basic literacy centres in Awka South Local Government Area. There was no need for sampling because the population was small and manageable. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study.</p> <p>A questionnaire designed by the researchers, based on a four-point scale, was the instrument for data collection from the facilitators.&nbsp; Data collected from responses to their questionnaire were quantified and analyzed using mean statistics. [email protected] <p>This paper on insecurity and community leadership in Imo state is born out of the enormous security challenges in Imo State and the need to reorient and deepen knowledge and skills of community leaders for better performance in dynamic environment. The paper espoused insecurity in Imo state including killings by unknown gun men, kidnapping for ransom, arson, banditry, poverty, unemployment among others, all of which reflect deteriorating socioeconomic, political and livelihood crises in the state. Noticeable too was the ineffectiveness of community leaders in stemming the menace. Arising from review of relevant literature and theories, is the recognition of situational variables and leadership competencies as essential ingredients in leading in a dynamic environment.</p> <p>The paper observed that community leaders have not being sufficiently equipped with the necessary competencies&nbsp;&nbsp; to play the leadership role expected of them during crises. It therefore recommends capacity building for leadership competencies needed to mingle situational variables with followers need for leadership. [email protected] <p><em>This study examined the knowledge and attitude towards prevention of hepatitis among secondary school students in Port Harcourt metropolis of Rivers State. The study was guided by four research questions and three null hypotheses. Descriptive survey design was used and the population of the study consisted of 97,644 students. The sample of the study consisted of 400 students randomly selected using Taro Yamane Sampling Technique. The instrument for data collection was a 48 itemed questionnaire titled Knowledge and prevention of Hepatitis among Secondary School Students (KPHSSS). A reliability coefficient of .76 was obtained using Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient which showed a positive correlation.&nbsp; </em></p> <p><em>Data collected was analysed using Statistical Products for Service Solution (SPSS) version 23.0. Descriptive statistical tool was used to answer questions on demographic information while regression models were used to determine the relationship between variables. The results showed that the secondary school students have high knowledge of prevention of hepatitis, the students with middle parents’ socio-economic status have high knowledge of prevention of hepatitis, and the students with low parents’ socio-economic status also have high knowledge of prevention of hepatitis. Both male and female students have high knowledge of prevention of hepatitis, The Christian students, Muslims, as well as Traditional religion students also have high knowledge of prevention of hepatitis. </em></p> <p><em>Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that government through the ministry of health should organize national campaign and enlightenment programme to promote awareness of hepatitis viral infections and other forms of infectious disease. Awareness should be made for compulsory immunization programme for students in secondary schools to be vaccinated against infectious diseases (hepatitis inclusive) in order to minimize the rate of spread in the population. The paper adopted a descriptive survey research design. The population of the study comprised 2,643 teaching staff in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. A taro yamane formula was used to get a representative sample size of 347 lecturers. Simple random sampling technique was used to select the sample size across the 14 faculties in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. Questionnaire was the instrument for data collection. The instrument was dully validated. Data collected was analyzed using mean scores to determine the respondents’ level of agreement to each item of the research question. Based on the findings of the study, it was discovered that young adults abuse drug because of its availability, peer pressure, academic stress, anxiety, ignorance influence of media, and insufficient parental guidance. Obviously, the nation faces a lot of problems such as unstable democratic governance, dearth of popular participation which is a pillar to democracy, religious and cultural intolerance, disunity, negligence of human rights and its value. National development and cohesion cannot exist in the presence of the above problems. Consequently, this article is to create awareness on the impact civic education could have on tackling the above mentioned ills of the nation by promoting democratic governance.</p> <p>This study examined civic education as a means of promoting democratic governance to ensure national development and cohesion and highlighted several problems confronting its implementation in Nigeria. The meanings of national development, national cohesion and civic education were presented and it purposes/aims were outlined. Effort was also made to provide the meaning of democratic governance and, roles of civic education in promoting democratic governance. [email protected] <p><strong><em>The focus of this study was to find out the relationship between students’ personality traits and their academic performance in History of Education in tertiary institutions in Imo State, Nigeria.Three research questions and three null hypotheses guided the study. Correlation research design was used in the study. The population for the study was 3100 which comprised 1030 students from Imo State University (IMSU) and 2070 students from Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education (AIFCE). The study adopted simple random sampling technique.&nbsp; A sample size of 180 students was drawn from AIFCE and 120 students from IMSU which summed up 300 respondents. An instrument titled Questionnaire on Personality Traits and Academic Performance of Students’ offering History of Education (QPTAPSHOE) was developed by the researchers for data collection. The instruments were face and content validated by three experts two from Educational Foundations and one from Measurement and Evaluation all in the Faculty of Education in UNN. The instrument was trial-tested on a sample of 20 students in UNN which is outside the study area which has the similar characteristics. The responses were subjected to Cronbach Alpha formula. </em></strong></p> <p><strong><em>The following reliability indices: 0.76, 0.89 and 0.74 were obtained for clusters A, B and C.&nbsp; The reliability indices obtained showed that the questionnaire items were reliable. The three research questions were analyzed using Simple Linear Regression Analysis. One-way ANOVA was used to test the three null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The overall result showed that personality traits in general have a low positive relationship with students’ academic performance offering History of Education in Imo State Tertiary Institution, Nigeria. Adulthood in this context involves psychological, sociological, political, financial, spiritual, cognitive or intellectual, professional and biological maturities alongside with various characteristics. The educators or facilitators or instructors should understand these variables in the adult learners in order to attain effective teaching and learning. The psychological and other forms of the adult learners must be viewed against their needs, emotions; anxiety; fear; adjustment; self-esteem; self-concept; self-fulfillment; and motivation.</p> <p>Besides, the facilitators or instructors should also consider the following functions of the adult learners in order to make learning effective such as arousal function; expectancy function; incentive function; and, disciplinary function. There is need for the educator to be less formal in dealing with adult learners, need to promote self-confidence in the adult learner; to reduce fear; and, the need to make learning more relevant. ASUU strike is no longer news in Nigeria and a sort of bi-annual occurrence considering the frequency in a decade. The history of ASUU strike actions in Nigeria was identified, including the causes which include poor welfare packages, harsh government policies, hijacking of administrative roles of university system, corruption,platform of payment, autonomy, among others. The consequences and implication on adult educationprogramme included brain drain, prolonged graduation of students, dilapidation of university infrastructure, delayed implementation of Adult education programme and objectives in line with international standards. The paper recommended sustainable financial autonomy for university system, administrative autonomy except salary and recruitment.consistent dialogue with the union before implementing unpopular policies and resolving previous agreement.
