Author Guidelines

The Journal:
The journal which is published twice a year, is a multi-disciplinary outlet and accepts well-researched papers in all areas of Spatial Information Sciences; Geographic Information Sciences, Remote Sensing, Photogrammetry, Geodesy and Geodynamics, Hydrography, and hydrometry, etc. It also accepts technical reports and scholarly reviews of journal articles and books.

2. Typescript:
Manuscripts shall be single-spaced; using a 12-point font; employ italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations. The position of tables, illustrations, and computer output should be indicated in the text. Tables and legends for illustrations should be typed in sequence separately at the end of the manuscript and numbered with Arabic numerals. A short-running title of not more than 40 characters (including spaces) should be indicated if the title is longer than this. The manuscript should show in strict order the title of the paper, name(s) of the author(s), institutional affiliations, and present position. All papers should not exceed 20 pages or 6,000 words, including illustrations and references.

3. Key Words:
Up to six keywords (index words) should be provided by the author(s) written below the abstract to assist indexing and information retrieval systems.

4. Illustrations:
Original drawings should be submitted, preferably not larger than 30cm by 23cm in Indian ink on transparent paper. All letterings should be legible for easy reproducibility. All explanations should be in the legend. Photographs should be reduced to the barest minimum to where their presence is inevitable.

5. Equations:
Whenever possible, mathematical equations should be type-written, with subscripts and superscripts clearly shown. It is helpful to identify unusual or ambiguous symbols in the margin where they first occur. To simplify typesetting, citations in the text should be given as surname and date of publication in brackets, for example (Mabogunje, 1980); where there are two authors, give their surnames with the date of publication in brackets e.g. (Brown and Smith, 1957), where there are three authors, given the surname of the first, followed by et al and date, for example (Mba, et al, 2004). Please use fractional instead of root signs, and use the solidus (I) in simple fractions.

6. References:
References shall be presented at the end of the paper using the American Psychological Association (APA) 6th edition. The best way to apply the APA 6th ed. The style of referencing religiously is by having the APA document at one's fingertips. The full version of the Guide can be accessed on the APA website which covers the referencing styles for journal articles, books, conference papers, e-books, and so on. It also includes the in-text referencing styles for each category.

7. Copy Right/Off Prints:
Authors submitting manuscripts do so on the understanding that if they are accepted for publication, exclusive copyright in the paper shall be assigned to the Department of Surveying and Geoinformatics, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria.

8. Contributions to Publication:
All Authors will be required to pay an Article Processing Charge (APC) for their papers. Articles that exceed set limits in terms of file size and pages will attract extra charges as appropriate.

9. Submission of Manuscripts
Manuscripts should be written in the English Language and submitted in soft copy to the Editor-in-chief via [email protected].

Each paper should be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 300 words at the head of the paper and should be intelligible to the general reader without reference to the main text. Abbreviations should be avoided. All articles are referred to and peer-reviewed (each will be a blind review to safeguard the privacy of reviewers).

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.
