Abstract

This study examined the implications of entrepreneurship development on employment creation in Awka Metropolis, Anambra State, Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design. The study population involves all the youth in Awka Metropolis Anambra State, while the sample size was one hundred and eighty (180) arrived at using Taro Yamane formula. Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire from the randomly sampled workers. Descriptive statistics like distribution tables, mean and standard deviation were used to present the data collected, while inferential statistics was used for data analysis. The test of hypotheses was done using Chi-Square. The research revealed that entrepreneurship development has a significant positive effect on employment creation in Awka South L.G.A. Anambra State. The study concluded that without a proper and articulated plan to further enhance the development of entrepreneurial activities in the state, the task of creating jobs for the teaming unemployed populace will remain a mirage. The study recommended that government need to organized continuous entrepreneurial training programmes in the area of entrepreneurship skills and also government need to formulation effective policies and programmes for the development and channeling of entrepreneurial talents towards the overall development of the nation.
