Abstract

This research provides a comprehensive descriptive analysis of the linguistic structure of the Umuchu dialect, an understudied Igo language spoken in Anambra State, Nigeria. The study examines the phonological, morphological, and syntactic features of the dialect, sheding light on its unique characteristics and cultural significance. The researcher employes a qualitative research approach, utilizing a combination of field observations, interviews, and linguistic surveys to collect data from native speakers. The data is analysed using a descriptive linguistic framework, with a focus on identifying patterns and trends in the dialect’s linguistic structure. The findings of this work contribute to our understanding of the linguistic diversity of Nigeria, inforn language documentation and preservation efforts, provide insights into the cultural heritage of the Umuchu people.
