Translating African literary texts into European languages is an essential means of transmitting the continent's cultural heritage to the global village. There are already researchers who have focused on the criticism of the translation of African novels of the three different generations: (precolonial, colonial and postcolonial). This article has the prime purpose of translating some Igbo cultural aspects drawn from Ọdiụkọ The Story of an Amazon, a novel written by Odochi Silver. By analysing it, the article will address difficulties encountered during our translation of these aspects into French. In adopting a discursive approach, this article aims to examine the
problems associated with translating Igbo cultural elements into French in the chosen novel. This study is limited solely to the cultural problems of translation. The results will be useful and relevant to students and researchers in the fields of African literature and translation.
RÉSUMÉ
Traduire les textes littéraires africains en langues européennes constitue un moyen essentiel pour transmettre l’héritage culturel du continent au village global. Il existe déjà des chercheurs qui se sont concentrés sur la critique de la traduction des œuvres africaines des trois générations : (précolonial, colonial et postcolonial) Cet article a le but prime de faire une traduction des aspects culturels tirées dans Ọdiụkọ The Story of an Amazon d’Odochi Silver. En l’analysant, l’article abordera des difficultés rencontrées au cours de notre traduction des aspects culturels igbo vers le Français. En adoptant une approche discussive, cet article vise à examiner les
problèmes associés à la traduction des éléments culturels Igbo en langue française dans le roman choisi. Cette étude se limite uniquement aux problèmes culturels de traduction. Les résultats seront utiles et pertinents aux étudiants et aux chercheurs dans les domaines de la littérature africaine et de la traduction.
