Abstract

The rapid advancement of emerging automotive technologies, including electric vehicles, autonomous systems, connected mobility, and intelligent diagnostics, is transforming workforce skill requirements within the automotive industry. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly recognized as a powerful tool for modernizing vocational education through adaptive learning, intelligent tutoring systems, virtual simulations, predictive analytics, and competency-based training. Despite its potential, AI integration in automotive vocational training remains constrained by inadequate digital infrastructure, limited funding, outdated curricula, weak industry collaboration, and insufficient instructor expertise. This study examines the role of AI in vocational training for emerging automotive technologies, highlighting its challenges, opportunities, and future directions. It explores AI-enabled tools such as intelligent tutoring systems, virtual and augmented reality environments, digital twins, Internet of Things (IoT) applications, and predictive maintenance technologies. The study reveals that AI enhances practical skill acquisition, supports personalized learning, strengthens diagnostic competencies, and improves alignment between vocational education and Industry 4.0 workforce demands. Furthermore, emerging developments such as AI-powered smart laboratories, predictive learning analytics, digital twin platforms, and human–AI collaborative learning environments are expected to shape future training systems. The study concludes that effective AI integration can significantly improve automotive vocational education and recommends curriculum modernization, instructor capacity development, stronger industry partnerships, infrastructure investment, and supportive policy frameworks to ensure sustainable implementation.
