Abstract

In 1980, a hospital in Florida paid a sum of 7 million dollars to a patient in a lawsuit for wrongly translating the Spanish word "intoxicado" (food poisoning related) to "intoxicated" (drugs or alcohol-related) in English which resulted in a chronic sickness to the patient. This and other life-threatening health issues led to the birth of this paper. While translating and analysing some selected leaflets of pharmaceutical drugs using an interpretative approach, we were able to sand fill the potholes in this translation domain as well as other domains of technical translation.
