LE TRADUCTEUR ANGLOPHONE ET LE DEFI DE LA TRADUCTION LITTERAIRE ANGLAIS-FRANÇAIS :

QUELLE STRATEGIE ADOPTER ?

Abstract

Translation is a universal human activity that is needed at all times and in all parts of the globe. This generalist definition does not provide any required clarification on the key elements of translation because, rather, it points to one of the functions of translation. Translation can generally be classified into three groups: literary translation, pragmatic translation and technical or scientific translation. The simplicity of such a classification eliminates any form of confusion. It is in this sense that we have translated and studied one of the literary texts produced by one of the Nigerian writers - The Last of the Strong Ones by Akachi Adimorah-Ezeigbo. This study argues that to overcome the problems encountered by translators, the literary translator must not only have a very good knowledge of the two languages (source and target) and their cultures, but he must also have additional linguistic skills especially for English speakers who translate into French.

Résumé

La traduction est une activité humaine universelle qui est nécessaire à tout moment et dans toutes les parties du globe. Cette définition généraliste n'apporte aucune clarification requise sur les éléments clés de la traduction car, elle signale plutôt l'une des fonctions de la traduction. La traduction peut généralement se classer en trois groupes : la traduction littéraire, la traduction pragmatique et la traduction technique ou scientifique Si l'on insiste sur le fait que tout ce qui n'est pas littéraire est non littéraire en termes de traduction, on voit la simplicité d'une telle classification qui élimine toute forme de confusion. C’est dans ce sens que nous avons traduit et étudié l’un des textes littéraires produits par l’un des écrivains nigérians - The Last of the Strong Ones d’Akachi Adimorah-Ezeigbo. Cette étude soutient que pour surmonter les problèmes rencontrés par les traducteurs, le traducteur littéraire doit non seulement avoir une très bonne connaissance des deux langues (de départ et d’arrivée) et leurs cultures, mais il doit aussi avoir des compétences linguistiques supplémentaires surtout pour les anglophones qui traduisent en français.
